Send-In-The-Clowns

Don’t ‘Send in the Clowns!’ (The Looney Clowns are Already Here!)

In the last blog I quoted a line from Shakespeare.  In this blog, I am quoting the name of a composition by Stephen Sondheim which he wrote in 1973 for the musical, A Little Night Music.    Do you remember who first recorded ‘Send in the Clowns?’  Many famous musicians have sung it, including Barbra Streisand, Judy Collins and the most famous version on the ‘Simpson’s’ by Krusty the Clown. But the first person to record the song, after it appeared on Broadway, was Old Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra, in 1973.

But I digress.  I have finally decided that what has changed most significantly during my lifetime, and not in a better way, is entertainment.  For the purposes of this blog, specifically ….comedy (thus the clowns).  What constitutes good comedy today, compared to what was good comedy 50 years ago?

Well, one thing that I have noticed, is that somehow, comedians today think they have transformed themselves into mental giants overnight.  In addition, they have taken it upon themselves to routinely inject their political beliefs into their routines.  They do this with malice, with venom, and with a large dose of aggression that certainly was not present in the comedy of my youth.

Everyone knows what comedienne Kathy Griffin has done recently.  She, in the hopes of having her head sculpted into a memorial atop the Hollywood hills, held up a severed, bloody head of Donald Trump, in pure ISIS fashion.   Besides doing this deplorable act, do you know what the most idiotic part is of this whole ordeal?  It was Kathy Griffin’s surprise about the backlash that occurred by her actions.  She thought she would be beloved by the radical left.  She thought she would become the poster girl for Hollywood and its left leaning politics.  She thought she was being funny.  But then the backlash occurred and it took aim where it hurts the Hollywood elite the most….in the pocket book!  Yes, their god is money and once taken away, they lose faith.  In this instance, sponsors began withdrawing their support and as a result, her New Year’s Eve gig with Anderson Cooper was canceled.  Ouch!  But the idiotic Kathy was not done.  She apologized for doing the act, but she did not apologize to the POTUS or his family.  She did not apologize to Baron Trump who was traumatized by seeing his father’s severed head on national television.  Then she decided to strike back by saying that the Trump family are a bunch of bullies and have “broken her” and ruined her career.  Ruined your career?  You are a D level actress/comedian that has pandered sleazy comedy and sleazy events for years and now you think your career is over?  I sure as hell hope so!  What part of this action on your part was funny?

But wait, another intellectual giant has weighed in to defend Kathy Griffin.  That intellectual giant would be none other than Ace Ventura; Jim Carrey himself!  Here is what he said about comedy: “It’s the job of the comedian to cross the line at all times.  That line is not real and if you step out into that spotlight and you’re doing the crazy things that (Trump) is doing, we’re the last line of defense. The comedians are the last voice of truth in this whole thing.”  Nothing is politically motivated in that statement.  (Yeah, right.)  Exactly, Mensa Jim, is that line that has to be crossed at all times? Respect? (check).  Viciousness? (check).  Politically maligned?  (check).  Common Sense?  (check). Entertaining?  (check).  Funny?  (check).  Are these the components of the imaginary line?  If they are, Kathy Griffin, and your dumb-ass comments defending her are definitely over the line!  What’s this B.S. about the ‘last line of defense?’   I am convinced that the last thing you cowardly wienies would do would be to take up arms and defend this country.  You may defend your country club, but not your country.

Unfortunately, Kathy Griffin is not alone on her ‘cross the line’ diatribes and actions.  Stephen Colbert is so far left politically that it is amazing he can stand up straight.  But….Stephen Colbert has an audience and he uses his platform to spew his malicious venom all in the name of comedy.  Here is a part of one of his monologues when he begins ranting about Trump: “Sir, you attract more skinheads than free Rogaine.  You have more people marching against you than cancer.  You talk like a sign language gorilla that got hit in the head.  In fact, the only thing your mouth is good for is being Vladimir Putin’s cock holster.”  Granted, I do find humor with the Rogaine part of the monologue, but then he ‘crosses the line.’

Not to be outdone, we have Bill Maher.  While on his HBO program Real Time with New York magazine reporter Gabriel Sherman on a Friday night, the 61 – year – old made the incest joke about first daughter Ivanka Trump’s relationship with her father President Donald Trump.  He said: “What do you make of Ivanka and her efforts to sort of humanize her father?  We see all this misogyny at Fox News, we see it in Donald Trump himself.  A lot of us thought, Ivanka is gonna be our saving grace.”  Maher then took it a step further and mimicked Ivanka performing a sex act on her father.

Here is my question.  Why are these two disrespectful, constipated at the mouth morons still on television?  Well, I answered the question earlier in this blog.  Money is the god of Hollywood and these two bring in lots more to their respective networks than Kathy Griffin could ever dream about. She was expendable….they, because of their earning potential, are not.  It would be the proper, respectful, action to take to can both of them, but don’t ever expect something proper and respectful to ever come out of Hollywood.

It is obvious that Ace Ventura never watched or followed the comedy of his predecessors.  During my youth, the comics were extremely funny and they did not have to ‘cross any line!’  Grandma P’s favorite comic was Red Skelton.  He was on TV for over 20 years, from 1951 to 1971.  He ended every show with the words, “Good Night and God bless.”  His shows were hilarious as he was also a talented mime.  His most memorable character was Clem Kadiddlehopper.

I had two favorites.  In the early 50’s and 60’s it was Jackie Gleason in The Honeymooners.  He was a bus driver in New York (Ralph Kramden) and his next door neighbor was Art Carney (Ed Norton), who played a sewer worker.  Their wives were played by Jane Meadows (Alice) and  Joyce Randolff (Trixie).    His ‘get-rich-quick’ schemes provided for a solid basis in humor.

But, my all time favorite comedy show was the Carol Burnett Show.  It ran continuously from 1967 to 1978.  Her supporting cast included Vicki Lawrence, Harvey Korman, Tim Conway, Lyle Waggoner, and for a short time, Dick Van Dyke.  The show was made up entirely of skits, and, done before a live audience.  Some of the routines were hilarious.  What made them particularly funny was that oftentimes, there was ad-libing taking place, especially by Tim Conway.  The reactions of the other actors was as funny as the skit itself as they were completely caught off guard by his shenanigans.  I recommend watching the films of this show.  You will see what comedy was meant to be.

There were many other comedians that were extremely funny.  Don Rickles, Ernie Kovac, Johnny Carson, Jay Leno,  Joan Rivers, Phyllis Diller, Phil Silvers, Dick Van Dyke, Lucille Ball, Morey Amsterdam;  these were just some of the funny, humorous comedians of my youth and you know what?  They did not cross any damn line to be funny!  They may have all pushed the envelope on occasion, but they were never disrespectful, crude or vulgar.  They never, ever used their fame for a public political stage.  They knew what their position was in our society, they were there to provide entertainment for the family.

So the clowns of the present could definitely learn from the clowns of the past.  No one, and I mean no one, is interested in your crude, malicious political commentary.  It is classless humor coming from classless people.

Damn.  I miss the old days of comedy.

good-old-days

Were the ‘Good Old Days,’ Really That Good?

Donald Trump presidency…………….D +… Eighty something days!

There are some days when I really, really miss the good old days.  Most people under 30 have not really grasped the concept of the ‘good old days’.  The forty somethings and 50 somethings are just beginning to grasp the ‘good old day’ concept.  But trust me when I say that those of us over sixty years old have not only grasped the ‘good old day’ concept, but we are trying to grasp it so tightly that we have almost choked it to death. (And we enjoy imparting our good old day experiences on the younger generations.)

Our small Midwestern town had a drug store that had a soda fountain.  During my youth, a cherry coke could be purchased for 5 cents.  A Snickers bar was 5 cents.  There was a marshmallow/chocolate candy bar called Valomilk.  It also cost 5 cents, but it had a gimmick.  Inside each wrapper was a small cardboard disk.  Once you collected 30 cardboard disks, you sent them to the manufacturer for ten free Valomilks!  Wow!  So, in about a ten day time span, I purchased and ate thirty Valomilks. Yes….I ate them all myself because I was in my non-sharing, bratty stage of child development.   (I was also hyperactive from all that damn sugar!)  About two weeks later, I received ten free Valomilks delivered in a round cardboard sleeve.  I was in hog heaven!  And….I thought I beat the system.  I figured that if I got ten free Valomilks with the little cardboard disk inside, I would only have to purchase twenty more Valomilks to get the ten free Valomilks again.  It was my nine year old mind’s version of a ponzi scheme regarding candy bars. But, alas, the manufacturer outsmarted me.  There were no cardboard disks in the ten free Valomilks.  I only did that promotion once, as I really liked a Snickers better.

Our small town hardware store provided just about everything.  You not only were able to purchase the traditional hardware materials, but you could also purchase shotgun shells, rifle bullets, dishes, baseball mitts, toys, hot water heaters, stock watering tanks, electric fence materials…..well, you get the idea.  It was much more than just a hardware store.  All of those items mentioned were either purchased by me or my family.  Oh….the simplicity of the ‘good old days.’

I also bought the one and only bike I owned until I was over 40 years old from that hardware store. Purchasing it was simple.  You picked the one you liked from the 12-15 available boys bikes.   That large selection was only available during the spring.  If you waited, you bought your bike from the remaining dregs because they did not restock until the following spring.  Mine was a pretty red and white bike with the conventional one speed.  That one speed being that the faster you peddled, the faster you would go.  If you could afford a three speed bike, you were not only rich, but you would be branded a sissy.!

Grandma P never did have a bicycle.  Her family of six could not afford them.  She got her first bicycle when she was 64 years old.  Even though she knew how to ride, it was terrifying for her to start riding again.  Now she enjoys riding her bicycle and she rides it with confidence.  Our oldest grandson would be surprised about Grandma P never owning a bike.  He got into BMX racing and owns seven bikes!

A trip to the local A&W was  simple, easy and inexpensive.  A small root beer cost 5 cents.  A large root beer was a dime.  A hamburger was a quarter and french fries were an additional 15 cents. More importantly, the food was brought to you by a beautiful female carhop.  The owner of the A&W hired all the cheerleaders during the summer to be his carhops!  Not surprisingly, he sold hundreds of gallons of root beer every year!

The small cone at the local Dairy Queen cost 5 cents.  They had a jumbo cone that cost a quarter, but you really had to like ice cream to be able to finish that cone.  A malted milk cost a quarter and there were many available flavors.  My favorite was blueberry and sometimes an occasional strawberry.  They were delicious.  Occasionally, in order to diversify my calorie laden diet, I would order a sundae rather than a malt.  This also cost a quarter.  My two favorite sundaes were either butterscotch or hot fudge with nuts.

Because our small town was 60 miles from a major city, our choices for radio channels were rather limited.  We had two AM stations that played rock and roll that we were able to receive on our AM only radios.  Our cars only had AM radios.  It was much later before FM made an appearance in our community.  People owning FM radios were either listening to classical music or to PBS offerings. But for us youngsters, AM rock and roll was our choice and where it was at!

Life was much simpler in many other ways.  For instance, we only had three television channels, ABC, NBC and CBS until an independent station took our total to four.  As a result of this, we only had three different sources of news casts.  Each of the major networks had 30 minute time slots, followed by the local channel with another 30 minutes of news, weather and sports.  A total of one hour of news beginning at either 5:30 or 6:00 PM.  There was another half hour of local news, weather and sports at 10:00 PM. (As an aside, the networks went off the air at night and did not come on again until the next morning!  Imagine that…you millennials!)

So why am I writing about all this stuff concerning the good old days?  Firstly, I hope that sometime in the future, my grandkids will actually read my blog.  Secondly, and more importantly, I do believe life was much more simple during the post WWII years than they are today.  This is especially true when it comes to television media and its hundreds of channels.

Did you notice that I began this blog with the ‘Donald Trump presidency……D+ eighty something days.’  Have you followed all the 24/7 news channels that are headlining the following:  Donald Trump, the First 100 days?  The one thing I miss about the good old days was that after a spirited and tiring presidential election….everything seemed to quiet down as  the new president was getting acclimated to his new position and to his new cabinet.  The media took a break.  Not any more!  Do any of you baby boomers remember any other POTUS getting the following and the scrutiny of this President as soon as he took the oath of office?  What happens when the hundredth day arrives?  Is the newest headline going to be:  Donald Trump presidency….the second hundred days?  The first year? The second year?   Do they realize that his term is over 1460 days?  I have watched more White House press conferences since Trump became POTUS than I have for my entire life.  Can’t they hold two a week instead of every day?

Here is the problem and the big difference between the television media today and the television media during the good old days.  Today, we have more 24/7 news channels than we had total channels during my youth. Those news channels need something to broadcast for that 24 hour period.  When we had three total channels, the important issues and highlights were covered, human interest stories were added and that was it…..short, sweet and simple.  That was how we got our news. Today?  Well, today, just to make sure there is enough content to cover a 24 hour period, every issue is covered in depth, and deeper, and deeper, and repeatedly.  Teams of talking heads are assembled to make sure that if one talking head needs to take a breath, another talking head can chime in with a divergent opinion.  This creates dissension, which somehow must equate to ratings.  Then, if there is not enough worthy news to fill a 24/7 news cast, there are two options: either repeat what has been covered or make something up. Unfortunately, I believe more news channels are reverting to ‘make something up.’  I believe the new terminology is ‘fake news’ or ‘false news.’

What would the liberal biased television media report if they did not have Donald Trump?  What acting job would Alec Baldwin have if he could not lampoon Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live? These are almost important issues.

If you have followed my blog, you have surmised that I am a political junkie.  But since the Trump inauguration, I have ‘crossed the Rubicon’ when it comes to the news reporting about politics.  The television media has worn me down.  I find myself turning off the television and watching less and less of what is being reported.  I wish these news channels would just report the news in clear and concise terms.  But if they did that, there would only be about 90 minutes of news to report every day.  And then my dear readers, we would be back to reporting as it was during the ‘good old days.’

Oh well, the good old days are long gone.  I think I will eat my $1.49 Snickers and my $5.00 hamburger.   I’m on my diet so I will have to pass on the $3.50 malted milk.

Tomorrow is Easter.  Never forget the purpose of the holiday.  Much was sacrificed for our salvation. God bless.

Pole Vaulting Over Mouse Turds!

Donald Trump presidency…….D + 46

There were many times during my military and business careers when some individuals would become bogged down in minutia.  This was not necessarily a bad thing if there were no time constraints and the minutia being provided stayed focused on the end product or mission.  That was usually not the case, however.

Let me use the military as an example.  Whether the planning involved training or war plans, there were always time constraints.  Yet, some staff wienie would always want to use precious time to delve into the most insignificant of details that were only of concern to him, and not to the group or geared to the mission.  The same situations occur during business planning meetings.  It seems you always have one or two individuals that want to demonstrate their intelligence or elevate their importance by monopolizing time that just was not available.  When asked a question, oftentimes these individuals would provide an answer in an overabundance of detail that was just not necessary.  As a shortcut to brevity, I would chide these people with the phrase, “When I ask you what time it is, don’t tell me how to build a clock.”  This phrase would usually get the ‘minutia minded’ back on track.

Most people have heard the phrase, ‘making a mountain out of a mole hill.’  Cute.  I found that the phrase, ‘You are pole vaulting over mouse turds’ was much more effective in keeping a staff in line and focused based on our time constraints and mission.

So, with the ‘pole vaulting over mouse turd’ concept in mind; could it be applied to what is currently happening in Washington, D.C.?  Unfortunately, I believe it fits all too nicely.

Donald Trump has been POTUS for 46 days.  Here are some of the items that the liberal biased media and the Democratic party have brought to the forefront since the Trump inauguration.  One of the initial biggies was that some female members of the Democratic party called for a boycott of the Ivanka Trump clothing line.  You would think with all these ‘women’s marches,’ like the one occurring today as I am writing this, that these women would be ecstatic that a member of the fair sex is successful in business.  Not the case!  So, in defense, Kellyanne Conway mentioned on a Sunday morning news show that people should buy clothing from the Ivanka Trump collection.  The response?  The shouting began!  “Kellyanne Conway needs to be replaced!”  “Kellyanne Conway needs to be severely disciplined.”  “Kellyanne needs to be prosecuted.”  (As an aside, the Ivanka collection is having unprecedented high sales after the Democrat women called for boycott!)

Poor Kellyanne could not catch a break after someone posted a picture of her sitting on her feet on a sofa in the oval office.  Again, the shouting began from the left.  Disrespectful!  (Followed by the three comments in bold in the previous paragraph.)  Apparently, the liberals have forgotten about the picture of Obama with his feet up on the historical Resolute desk in the oval office.  This desk was a gift from Queen Victoria of England.  Or, about Bill Clinton having an intern under the desk.

Combined

Any disrespect there?

Other media consuming biggies is that Donald Trump uses ketchup on his steak.  Earth shattering!  And, recently, Ben Carson referred to slaves as immigrants.  Again, earth shattering.  Would you say the four mentioned situations are all important, or would you classify them as ‘pole vaulting over mouse turds.’  I am a believer that we could use toothpicks to vault over those turds.

Here are some items that I believe the media and our politicians from both parties should be focusing upon.

Earlier this week, North Korea fired four ballistic missiles in the direction of Japan.  We have 50,000 service people stationed in Japan.  Today, the North Koreans have said that they were trying to hit Japan, even though the missiles fell short by 150 miles.  After the firing, we sent additional anti-missile defense weapons to South Korea.  Now the Chinese are claiming we are being aggressive and spoiling for a war.  I would say this is a biggie.  Especially in light of the fact that the Chinese are constructing artificial islands in the South China Sea and fortifying them as naval bases.  And…they are claiming the surrounding oceans as Chinese territorial waters.

China’s banks are financing much of the aggression that is being shown by not only the North Koreans, but by the Iranians.  They are lending money for the purchase of all types of weapons to whoever wants to borrow and purchase, including nations that sponsor terrorism.  Its nice that we continue to purchase Chinese made items so that their banking system can afford to finance the terrorists of the world.

Have you noticed how many times our ships have been buzzed by Iranian patrol boats in the Persian Gulf?  It seems to be happening more and more as the Iranians become more belligerent.  In the very near future, either they will fire on us or we will fire on them.  Then what?

Not to be outdone, those pesky Russians are buzzing our ships with their airplanes.   Much of this is to test the resolve of our new president.  Nothing happened to any of these nations over the last eight years and they are attempting to determine if they can continue their aggression unfettered.  After all, what decisive action did we take against Putin during his invasion of the Ukraine?

On the national front……………….

Have you seen anything of late about the national debt?  Apparently, our politicians and media are not concerned about a $20 trillion debt.  Maybe this debt sounds smaller if it is expressed as 20,000 billion dollars.  The ‘b’ sound is apparently less menacing than the ‘t’ sound.

Did you realize that after 46 days in office, President Trump is still missing four key individuals from his cabinet?  He is missing the Director of National Intelligence, the Secretaries of Labor and Agriculture and the U.S. Trade Representative.  It appears that with the Liberals fighting every step of the way, it will take longer for him to get his cabinet.  In comparison, Obama had 7 cabinet members confirmed on his inauguration day.  Then there is the Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch.  Have you seen this guy’s credentials?  If he and Jesus had a contest to see who would get the least wet while walking across water….I think it would be close to a tie!  His confirmation should be a slam dunk, but will no doubt be contested.

Of course the biggest item in Washington today is the repeal of the Affordable Care Act.  The Republican roll out is now available for scrutiny and there is no shortage of scrutiny.  At least it is one-tenth the length of the original act at 200+ pages versus 2,000+ pages.  With that in mind, it will be read before being passed into law.  Also, it is open to correction and amendment.  This was something not available for the original bill when the it was rammed down the throats of the American public.  I want to point out that health care is an entitlement and not a right.  Entitlements can be taken away.  This particular entitlement comes with a very expensive price tag.

So readers, I want you to scrutinize as to what is important and what is political and media grandstanding.  What is important for the country versus what is important to a politician to get reelected.  Those interests are not the same.  Be discriminating about national and world events. What is more important?  The way Kellyanne Conway sits on a couch or the fact that the North Koreans have fired four missiles at Japan?  Don’t fall into the shenanigans of the media and some politicians by ‘pole vaulting over mouse turds.’

Womens-March

Role Models, Marches and Celebrities, Oh My!

Donald Trump presidency………..D +11

There is one big advantage to being a grandparent.  We don’t have to raise any children!  We get to spoil the grandkiddies, visit when we want, and then go home to the peace and solitude of our home. How could it get any better?

The one thing that does concern me, however, is the role models being presented to our grand children, especially our granddaughters.  Grandma P and I have three granddaughters ages 16 and under.  They are young and they are impressionable.  Who should be their role models?

Case in point.  The million women’s march, specifically the march held in Washington D.C following the inauguration of President Trump.  What was the purpose?  As a man, I am totally confused.  Was it about Pro Choice?  Women’s rights?  Or was it just a rally protesting the election of Donald Trump?

The reason for my confusion were some speakers.  Specifically Madonna and Ashley Judd.  Let’s begin with Madonna.  Firstly, I will give her credit for at least having a written speech.  She needs to find another speech writer, however.  Three times during the speech, she managed to use the F – Bomb. Secondly, she stated that the country was now in a  “new age of tyranny.”  Thirdly, the intellectual Madonna said that she had given a lot of consideration for “blowing up the White House.”

What part of this had anything to do with Pro Choice or women’s rights?  Gosh.  If I didn’t know better, I would think this was strictly a Donald Trump hate speech.  But here is where it gets really confusing.  At the end of her speech, Madonna led the chant, “We chose love.”   On what planet do you equate F -bombs, tyranny and bombing with love?  Geez.  I hope my granddaughters were in school and missed this whole speech.   But Madonna is a celebrity and she made her feelings known.  The liberal media covered this speech without bleeping the F – bombs.  Is she a role model you want your daughters or granddaughter to emulate?

Not to be outdone, Ashley Judd spoke.  She referred to the new president as “a man who bathes in Cheeto dust.”  Yeah, I don’t understand it either, but I will assume it was not a compliment to our new POTUS.  Then she went on to infer the country was “turning rainbows into suicide.”  Another intellectual observation by Ms. Judd that has again gone over my head.  To demonstrate her knowledge of history, Ms. Judd proclaimed that she could “feel Hitler in the streets.”  This was another insane comment made in all places, our nation’s capitol.  Ms. Judd, do you realize that Adolf Hitler (I am assuming that is the Hitler you are referring to) was responsible for the deaths of over 60 million people worldwide by starting WWII?  The United States lost almost 600,000 people in WWII. Russia lost 25 million people and has not really recovered since.  Oh, and then there was that little event referred to as the Holocaust.  In your advanced knowledge of world events, just how in the hell do you equate Hitler with anything transpiring in Washington, D.C?

Oh, but Ms. Judd was not done.  To assure that there wasn’t any confusion as to the purpose of her speech, she crossed the line of civility about her comments about Donald and Ivanka Trump. Without specifically mentioning names, she said your “daughter being your favorite sex symbol.”  And, a “wet dream with your own genes.”  OK.  Ashley, you made a few comments I did not totally understand, but I certainly understand these comments.  So, unlike the liberal media that did not make comment about your speech, I, Grandpa T will make a comment….”Ashley, you are one, sick, demented, hateful bitch.”  You obviously drank some bad water in Mexico and have a worm boring a hole through your brain.  That “wet dream with your own genes” comment; where did that come from? Was that the way it was in your house? (With your vast knowledge of history, you must have forgotten about a past president getting ‘serviced’ by a White House intern under the Oval Office desk.  Why didn’t you mention him?)

When I heard that speech, I became furious!  Firstly, these two speakers may be celebrities, but they are both idiots.  Yet, they were both given full-on media coverage by the liberal media like many of the celebrities who live in LaLa land.   Secondly, it strengthened my belief that this march was not about Pro Choice or women’s rights, it was a Donald Trump hate gathering.  So, which one of these women would you want as a role model for your daughters and granddaughters?  Interestingly, both of these speeches are readily available on U-Tube, and when I viewed them again, both speeches had more dislikes than likes.

Don’t get me wrong, I realize there were many more marches in other cities and I assume most had purpose and took place in a peaceful and orderly manner.  But, those peaceful and orderly marches did not get the national media attention as the Washington D.C. march obtained.  So I am going out on a sexist limb when I say that I am not sure what the purpose of your marches were, but the speeches in Washington definitely detracted from it.  That D.C. march became a sham and stole your credibility.

One week later, there was another march in Washington, D.C.  This time, it was a Pro-life march. (Now don’t get me wrong, as a man, I am neither pro-life or pro-choice, and that is not the topic of this blog.  If I had my druthers, I would take the whole subject out of the federal government limelight, and send it to the states.)  The keynote speaker at this march was Vice President Mike Pence.  But being he is a man, we will discount him as a role model for my granddaughters.  One of the other speakers was Kellyanne Conway.  Now there is a role model I could approve for my granddaughters! Kellyanne is the senior adviser to President Trump.  I do not admire her as a role model because of her position in the White House, even though other women should, but how she got to where she is. She had a rather rough childhood.  Her parents divorced when she was three.  She was required to work for support during her high school years.  But through perseverance and determination, she received a political science degree and a law degree.  She is a paragon of becoming a self-made woman.  At the same time, she and her husband are raising a family of four children.

If you own a television, no doubt you have seen her many times.  She was the architect of the Trump campaign as its manager.  The first female to be a campaign manager.  She has been speaking on many of the news shows lately.  She is intelligent and articulate.

Then there is the woman who was the object of Ashley Judd’s incestuous comments, Ivanka Trump. I am not going to say that Ivanka was not born with a silver spoon in her mouth, or gold, or platinum, or plutonium, but she has made her own wake in the business world.  I became impressed with Ivanka during the presidential campaigns.  She spoke often, as did her siblings in support of their father.  But Ivanka was extremely articulate and poised during her speeches.  She has been a successful model, author, business woman and has held an executive position with Trump enterprises for ten years.  Now she, too, is an adviser to her father and is raising a family of three kids as well.

If you have followed my blog, you will know that I selected a Trump-Rubio dream team about 18 months ago.  At least I was one for two.  So I will now make another prediction.  If I were a liberal, I would be careful about lambasting Ivanka Trump.  You could very well be talking about the first female president of the United States.

So as parents and grandparents, you decide who you want as a role model for the young females in our families.  Do you want hair-brained celebrities with more media coverage than brains or would you rather have someone who is intelligent, ambitious and educated.  Kellyanne Conway comes to mind, but so does Condoleezza Rice.  Ivanka Trump is a good role model.  So are Kristin and Catherine.  Oh?  You have never heard of Kristin and Catherine?  These are my two daughters-in-law.  Both are educated, articulate and ambitious.  I am not exaggerating when I say they are both within the top 5% of the wage earners in the U.S.  They achieved this status with their own capabilities and determination.

Maybe I don’t have to worry at all about the role models for my granddaughters.  If they follow in their mothers’ footsteps and use them as their role models, everything should turn out just fine.

PS.  After writing this blog, one of my readers pointed out that Donna Hylton was also a speaker at the Washington D.C. march.  Donna, speaking for women’s rights, has spent time in prison for kidnapping, torturing and eventually killing a gay man.  She and her compatriots did the torturing over a 20 day period.  Google her for more information.  Wow!

Obama-Legacy2

How Far Will You Go to Protect a Legacy? (Even a Bad One?)

In eleven days, Donald J. Trump will be inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States, thus ending the eight year tenure of Barack Hussein Obama.  It has become apparent that all thoughts and efforts, as of the November election, have turned to preserving the legacy of the outgoing 44th President.  Secondarily, it has become apparent that the Democratic party is also trying to preserve some kind of legacy.

What exactly is Barack Obama’s legacy going to be?

Obama Care?  (The Affordable Care Act that was not so affordable?)

Quadrupling the national debt to a staggering $20 trillion, plus or minus a few hundred billion?

Overseeing the military response to Benghazi?

The picture of American sailors on their knees after being captured by the Iranian navy?

The picture of him kissing the ring of the King of Saudi Arabia?

“If I had a son, he would be just like Trayvon Martin.”

Placing the most people in US history on welfare and food stamps?

Overseeing 19 million people leaving the US work force?

Help me out here!  I am trying to come up with something positive for POTUS 44 to hang his hat on, and I am coming up short.  He will be the first black President, but that is obvious and now I may be branded a racist for pointing out the obvious.  He may very well be the first Muslim President.  This has never been confirmed by the liberal-biased main stream media.  Of course, any media outlet that would have the cajoles to speculate about his religious preference would immediately be branded as ‘Islamophobic.’   Ah, but there is something that can be attributed to POTUS 44.  Political correctness!  We have now been inundated with people being black, gay, lesbian, illegal alien, transgender and a host of other things as not only being equal to the citizenry of the United States, but being special!  If you do not buy into that program, you are automatically branded as a racist, xenophobe, Islamophobic or any other of a myriad of phobias with negative connotations.  So, I, Grandpa T, hereby declare POTUS 44 as the President of Political Correctness.  Ta  da!  I knew I could come up with something positive.

But, with all the baloney aside, have you noticed the efforts on the part of Obama and the Democratic Party to save Obamacare?  Let me provide a little history for edification.  In 2009, immediately after being inaugurated, and with control of both the House of Representative and the Senate, the Affordable Care Act was rammed down the throats of the country.  It was not so much of an issue of being passed, but how it was passed.  It was passed without anyone knowing what was in it as it was almost 2000 pages long.  It was passed without any input by the Republican party, regardless if they had ideas that would have improved the bill or not.  It was passed by the Democratic Party without anyone  reading the bill.  Do you remember those infamous words of March 9, 2010 by the vaunted Nancy Pelosi?  “We will have to pass this bill to find out what is in it.”  Say what?  This is how government works?  Even at the time, I was shocked that so stupid a statement by Nancy Pelosi and so stupid an action by our Democratic controlled government took place.  Instead of ‘shoot first, and ask questions later,’ our Federal legislature decided to ‘enact first and work out details later.’  At the time of enactment, the Democratic Party basked in the glory of having taken total credit for the Affordable Care Act without interference or input from the opposing party.

Now comes the election of 2016 and with it comes the the victor, the future Non-Political Correctness POTUS 45, Donald J. Trump.  Donald, being a successful businessman by all measures, knows the Affordable Care Act is too costly for the users and it is just not working.  The promises made, such as lowering health care costs and being able to keep you present physician, turned out to be false.

So now we get to the legacy of what the current Democratic Party will have for now and in the future. That legacy will include being whiners, criers, divisive, counter-productive, poor losers and not being able to grasp reality.

Beginning with the Affordable Care Act, the Democrats are saying (even before Trump is inaugurated) that the Republicans do not have a plan. In reality, there are about 15 different plans floating around, and hopefully, there will be constructive discussion about what is the best and most affordable plan for America, utilizing the best from each plan including some parts of the original Affordable Care Act.  Of course, the Democrats do not want to replace the Affordable Care Act because they dubbed it Obamacare.  And, by totally repealing it as the Republicans have promised, would tarnish the largest part of the outgoing POTUS’s legacy.  I do not see the Republican controlled legislature replacing Obamacare without discussion and input from both sides….something the Democrats did not do in 2009.  But I would also like to point out that if the Democrats would have taken the time and effort to improve, read, and cooperate concerning the Affordable Care Act passed in 2010, it would not have to be repealed today.  You screwed up…all to buy votes.

As poor losers, the Democratic party is going all out to purvey that Donald Trump’s presidency as not being legitimate.  They cannot believe, or get over the fact that their candidate is not being crowned ‘Queen Hillary the First’ in eleven days.  Never mind that she never campaigned in the formerly blue states because of over-confidence in winning them.  Never mind that her opponent made three times more speeches and campaign stops than she did.  Never mind that her campaign palaver was based on poor versus rich, common people versus large, evil corporations or that the common American could not survive without the interference and support of a bloated federal government.

But Hillary, here is where you lost the election.  95% of my and Grandma P’s friends and acquaintances are either college graduates or military veterans, or both.  90% of them supported Donald Trump.  And you, Hillary, from the view of your ivory tower, determined that you were omnipotent and were justified in calling us and our friends, deplorable and irredeemable, because we supported Trump. All of this from a woman whose husband was a draft dodger.  All of this from a woman that allowed four Americans to be murdered in Benghazi.  Who is deplorable now?

The Trump presidency will be considered illegitimate because Hillary won the popular vote.  Hillary did win the popular vote. (Thank God for the electoral college!)  But if you subtract the votes from one state, California, Trump wins 49 states and Hillary will be the ‘Queen of California!’  We need to take a closer look at California.  California has a Hispanic population of 14,990,000.  It has a Caucasian population of 14,920,000, 5,736,098 Asians, 2,552,858 blacks, and 648,172 American Indians.  This gives California a total population of 39,487,345.  But here is where it gets interesting.  34% of the United States population receiving welfare, live in California even though California accounts for only 12% of the total US population!  To simplify, there are 23,113,200 welfare recipients living in California…over half its population!  So, if you subtract the votes received from both candidates that were cast in California, Trump wins!  Now I am going to speculate and put myself out on the ‘xenophobic’ limb; how many illegal aliens do you suppose voted in California?  If the United States required voter ID’s to vote, such as the picture ID’s with thumb print and hologram as required in Mexico to vote, how do you think the vote total would change?  Hmmm. (California needs to re-think the idea of ‘sanctuary cities.’  Without federal aid, it would be bankrupt in seconds!)

I forgot.  The Russians are responsible for skewing the election to Donald Trump.  Even though the US intelligence community has said numerous times that the Russkies did not directly affect the vote total, that is not what the Democrats want to purvey.  Never mind that John Podesta’s email account password was, well, ‘password’.  Those darn Russkies released all kinds of unsavory things that skewered the election.  Unsavory Clinton foundation illegal foreign contributions?  Paid demonstrators to disrupt Trump rallies?  What were those Russkies thinking?

Did you know that there are efforts in five states to keep Trump off the ballot in 2020?  Yup. Maryland, California (no surprise there!), Maine, Massachusetts and New York are all trying to take his name off the ballot if he does not release his tax statements.  I never knew one’s tax statements were a condition of running for office.  Talk about sore losers!

Of course, in true whiner, crier, divisive and counter-production form, the Democrats are already toting that they will fight against any supreme court justice nominee, and play devil’s advocate and fight most cabinet nominee appointments.  None of this was done by the Republican party in 2009 after Obama was inaugurated, but the Democrats, with their addled thinking, are justifying why they will do it now.

So what has the Democratic party become?  Do you remember any riots, protests, movie star bad-mouthing, politicians swearing non-cooperation when the incoming Obama was elected in 2008?  No?  That’s because there weren’t any!  Bad behavior, lack of respect, the use by celebrities to use their station in life to exacerbate lack of respect, the promise of non-cooperation by politicians now in the political minority are only traits of today’s Democratic party.  That is what the ‘ivory tower’ attitude, justified in their own minds, Democratic party has become.  With all of the Democratic machinations that have taken place since the election, Hillary really needs to reevaluate who the ‘deplorable and irredeemable’ really are.  It’s you.  And this will be the Barack Obama and Democratic party legacy.
