Role Models, Marches and Celebrities, Oh My!

Donald Trump presidency………..D +11

There is one big advantage to being a grandparent.  We don’t have to raise any children!  We get to spoil the grandkiddies, visit when we want, and then go home to the peace and solitude of our home. How could it get any better?

The one thing that does concern me, however, is the role models being presented to our grand children, especially our granddaughters.  Grandma P and I have three granddaughters ages 16 and under.  They are young and they are impressionable.  Who should be their role models?

Case in point.  The million women’s march, specifically the march held in Washington D.C following the inauguration of President Trump.  What was the purpose?  As a man, I am totally confused.  Was it about Pro Choice?  Women’s rights?  Or was it just a rally protesting the election of Donald Trump?

The reason for my confusion were some speakers.  Specifically Madonna and Ashley Judd.  Let’s begin with Madonna.  Firstly, I will give her credit for at least having a written speech.  She needs to find another speech writer, however.  Three times during the speech, she managed to use the F – Bomb. Secondly, she stated that the country was now in a  “new age of tyranny.”  Thirdly, the intellectual Madonna said that she had given a lot of consideration for “blowing up the White House.”

What part of this had anything to do with Pro Choice or women’s rights?  Gosh.  If I didn’t know better, I would think this was strictly a Donald Trump hate speech.  But here is where it gets really confusing.  At the end of her speech, Madonna led the chant, “We chose love.”   On what planet do you equate F -bombs, tyranny and bombing with love?  Geez.  I hope my granddaughters were in school and missed this whole speech.   But Madonna is a celebrity and she made her feelings known.  The liberal media covered this speech without bleeping the F – bombs.  Is she a role model you want your daughters or granddaughter to emulate?

Not to be outdone, Ashley Judd spoke.  She referred to the new president as “a man who bathes in Cheeto dust.”  Yeah, I don’t understand it either, but I will assume it was not a compliment to our new POTUS.  Then she went on to infer the country was “turning rainbows into suicide.”  Another intellectual observation by Ms. Judd that has again gone over my head.  To demonstrate her knowledge of history, Ms. Judd proclaimed that she could “feel Hitler in the streets.”  This was another insane comment made in all places, our nation’s capitol.  Ms. Judd, do you realize that Adolf Hitler (I am assuming that is the Hitler you are referring to) was responsible for the deaths of over 60 million people worldwide by starting WWII?  The United States lost almost 600,000 people in WWII. Russia lost 25 million people and has not really recovered since.  Oh, and then there was that little event referred to as the Holocaust.  In your advanced knowledge of world events, just how in the hell do you equate Hitler with anything transpiring in Washington, D.C?

Oh, but Ms. Judd was not done.  To assure that there wasn’t any confusion as to the purpose of her speech, she crossed the line of civility about her comments about Donald and Ivanka Trump. Without specifically mentioning names, she said your “daughter being your favorite sex symbol.”  And, a “wet dream with your own genes.”  OK.  Ashley, you made a few comments I did not totally understand, but I certainly understand these comments.  So, unlike the liberal media that did not make comment about your speech, I, Grandpa T will make a comment….”Ashley, you are one, sick, demented, hateful bitch.”  You obviously drank some bad water in Mexico and have a worm boring a hole through your brain.  That “wet dream with your own genes” comment; where did that come from? Was that the way it was in your house? (With your vast knowledge of history, you must have forgotten about a past president getting ‘serviced’ by a White House intern under the Oval Office desk.  Why didn’t you mention him?)

When I heard that speech, I became furious!  Firstly, these two speakers may be celebrities, but they are both idiots.  Yet, they were both given full-on media coverage by the liberal media like many of the celebrities who live in LaLa land.   Secondly, it strengthened my belief that this march was not about Pro Choice or women’s rights, it was a Donald Trump hate gathering.  So, which one of these women would you want as a role model for your daughters and granddaughters?  Interestingly, both of these speeches are readily available on U-Tube, and when I viewed them again, both speeches had more dislikes than likes.

Don’t get me wrong, I realize there were many more marches in other cities and I assume most had purpose and took place in a peaceful and orderly manner.  But, those peaceful and orderly marches did not get the national media attention as the Washington D.C. march obtained.  So I am going out on a sexist limb when I say that I am not sure what the purpose of your marches were, but the speeches in Washington definitely detracted from it.  That D.C. march became a sham and stole your credibility.

One week later, there was another march in Washington, D.C.  This time, it was a Pro-life march. (Now don’t get me wrong, as a man, I am neither pro-life or pro-choice, and that is not the topic of this blog.  If I had my druthers, I would take the whole subject out of the federal government limelight, and send it to the states.)  The keynote speaker at this march was Vice President Mike Pence.  But being he is a man, we will discount him as a role model for my granddaughters.  One of the other speakers was Kellyanne Conway.  Now there is a role model I could approve for my granddaughters! Kellyanne is the senior adviser to President Trump.  I do not admire her as a role model because of her position in the White House, even though other women should, but how she got to where she is. She had a rather rough childhood.  Her parents divorced when she was three.  She was required to work for support during her high school years.  But through perseverance and determination, she received a political science degree and a law degree.  She is a paragon of becoming a self-made woman.  At the same time, she and her husband are raising a family of four children.

If you own a television, no doubt you have seen her many times.  She was the architect of the Trump campaign as its manager.  The first female to be a campaign manager.  She has been speaking on many of the news shows lately.  She is intelligent and articulate.

Then there is the woman who was the object of Ashley Judd’s incestuous comments, Ivanka Trump. I am not going to say that Ivanka was not born with a silver spoon in her mouth, or gold, or platinum, or plutonium, but she has made her own wake in the business world.  I became impressed with Ivanka during the presidential campaigns.  She spoke often, as did her siblings in support of their father.  But Ivanka was extremely articulate and poised during her speeches.  She has been a successful model, author, business woman and has held an executive position with Trump enterprises for ten years.  Now she, too, is an adviser to her father and is raising a family of three kids as well.

If you have followed my blog, you will know that I selected a Trump-Rubio dream team about 18 months ago.  At least I was one for two.  So I will now make another prediction.  If I were a liberal, I would be careful about lambasting Ivanka Trump.  You could very well be talking about the first female president of the United States.

So as parents and grandparents, you decide who you want as a role model for the young females in our families.  Do you want hair-brained celebrities with more media coverage than brains or would you rather have someone who is intelligent, ambitious and educated.  Kellyanne Conway comes to mind, but so does Condoleezza Rice.  Ivanka Trump is a good role model.  So are Kristin and Catherine.  Oh?  You have never heard of Kristin and Catherine?  These are my two daughters-in-law.  Both are educated, articulate and ambitious.  I am not exaggerating when I say they are both within the top 5% of the wage earners in the U.S.  They achieved this status with their own capabilities and determination.

Maybe I don’t have to worry at all about the role models for my granddaughters.  If they follow in their mothers’ footsteps and use them as their role models, everything should turn out just fine.

PS.  After writing this blog, one of my readers pointed out that Donna Hylton was also a speaker at the Washington D.C. march.  Donna, speaking for women’s rights, has spent time in prison for kidnapping, torturing and eventually killing a gay man.  She and her compatriots did the torturing over a 20 day period.  Google her for more information.  Wow!
